Rochester, N.Y. — When it comes to star Goldie Hawn, it’s impossible to go overboard with praise.
The actor has earned plenty of awards during her storied career — starting with an Oscar and a Golden Globe for “Cactus Flower,” one of her first films. Hawn created the Goldie Hawn Foundation to support the emotional development of children and has penned two best-selling books.
And tonight in Upstate New York, Hawn will add another accolade to her resume.
Hawn is the winner of this year‘s George Eastman Award for her contribution to the art of cinema. She will accept the award this evening, Oct. 22, at the George Eastman Museum’s Dryden Theatre in Rochester.
The George Eastman Award dates back to 1955 and has recognized legends like Meryl Streep, Charlie Chaplin and Martin Scorsese. Jodie Foster won the award in 2023.
Hawn became a household name in 1968 on “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In,” a popular TV sketch comedy.
She quickly transitioned to film, beginning a lengthy career that included roles in “Private Benjamin”, a film she co-produced and earned an Academy Award nomination for; “Overboard”, the romantic comedy she starred in with her longtime partner Kurt Russell; and “The First Wives Club”, a classic comedy with an all-star cast.
“Throughout her career, Goldie Hawn has brought a unique comic flair to motion pictures,” said Bruce Barnes, the Ron and Donna Fielding director of the George Eastman Museum, in a news release. “Her screen personality in many of her films belies her savvy management of her career.”
The director also praised Hawn for dedicating more than two decades to improving the “emotional and social lives” of children.
Hawn has also passed on her acting chops to her three children, including actor Kate Hudson.
The 2024 George Eastman Award ceremony starts at 8 p.m. in the Dryden Theatre at 900 East Ave. It will feature a conversation with Hawn and will be followed by a gala inside the museum.
